Austin is a hot bed of music, but it is also the hot bed of Mid Century Modern decor. Great furniture from the 50s and 60s with fun colors and a never dull look.
Below are some of the best places to shop in Austin and around town to quench your modern mid century craving.
Austin Antique Mall
8822 McCann Dr, Austin Texas 78757
The Austin Antique Mall has over 30,000 square feet of antique space, so there is tons to look at. Inventory doesn’t change that much, so if you find something cool on the first visit, with luck you may be able to purchase it later. Plan on spending about 30 minutes to an hour to cover the entire store. There are lots of rooms and hidden areas that just might have what you’re looking for.
Tip: When cashing out make sure to ask for a discount, since many of the vendors offer 10-20% off. Prices seem pretty reasonable and the staff and vendors are very helpful.
5806 Burnet Road
Austin, TX 78756
You could easily overlook the Antique Marketplace, since it is hidden in a shopping center. There is 11,000 sq. ft. of Shopping with over 50 vendors. If your into antiques, it’s definitely worth the visit. They do carry a selection of mid century modern, but not like many of the other stores in our lineup.
Cosmic Consignment is a new vintage / mid-century modern store located on the East side. I don’t know much about them yet, but based on their pictures it looks like a fun store to visit.

They carry a wide range of mid century modern furniture. The store owners are extremely nice and eager to help. They are part of the Go Local Card network, so you can save some additional money by using the Go Local Card ($50 off your purchase over $1,000)
Vintage Danish and Mid Century Modern5111 Burnet Road, Austin, Texas
Check their website for hours of operation.
They carry a huge selection of Danish and Mid Century Modern Furniture. I would say that they have the best selection in Austin with some absolutely stunning pieces. The store is a lot of fun just to browse and check out all the wacky colors that the 50’s – 70’s integrated into their designs. Uptown Modern takes a lot of pride in their store and social media presence. Be sure to get on their mailing list to get first dibs on their sales and new items. If your into jewelry and art, they have that too.
7718 Springdale Rd, 78724
Open 11-6 every day
Modern Salvage is located in a big 10,000 square foot warehouse. They have a wide range of mid century furniture and other items. Their location is a little further out than some of the other stores, but it is definitely worth a visit. They are located between 290 and 183.
Off The Wall
1704 S Congress Ave
Austin, TX 78704
Off The Wall has been around for 20 years. If you’re looking for a wide selection of furniture, you will not find it here, but they do carry selected items that may be of interest. I have bought a thing or two from them and always enjoyed checking out what they had.
Rave On Vintage
1509 W North Loop Blvd
Austin, Texas 78756
With the closing of Hog Wild Vintage, there was a gap in the Mid Century Modern market that needed to be filled. Luckily some of the former vendors decided to venture out on their own and form Rave On Vintage.
Mid Century and Danish Modern Furnishings
5701 Burnet Rd.
Austin, TX 78756
If you want to go into a store and feel the total vibe of pure Danish awesomeness, Remixologie is it. The store is so Zen like, it makes Zen feel dirty in comparison. We are talking beautiful furniture in a small setting that doesn’t seem cramped or claustrophobic. The ladies their know their furniture and how to showcase it perfectly.
Room Service Vintage
107 E. North Loop
Austin, Texas 78751
This place is a little wacky. It’s 3,500 sq ft full of a massive selection of constantly changing 50’s-70’s furniture, lighting, clothing, costume jewelry, records, magazines, art glass, accessories & more. Room Service Vintage has been around since 1981 and hopefully will be around for a long time in the future.
Mid Century Modern Madness
There are several events that happen though out the year that are totally worth checking out and you just might find what you’re looking for.
RoundTop – Warrenton – Carmine – Shelby – Fayetteville
About 70 minute drive from Austin
This ISN’T a store, but a HUGE event that happens twice a year. We are talking a MEGA HUGE antique, vintage, mid century modern mammoth event that attracts thousands of dealers from across the country where they are joined by tens of thousands of buyers in the middle of Texas. It is a must go, must see adventure that everyone needs to participate in. You can find some increable deals that you simply can not pass up.
Tip 1: If you plan on going, be prepared. Bring rain gear, cold weather gear, snacks and lunch. Oh and bring your best walking shoes because you’re going to be walking a lot. We have been there several times and our favorite stop is in Warrenton. So many vendors to check out.
Tip 2: Treat this like a serious workout, because it can be exhausting. If you know a person or 2 that are complainers, you may want to leave them at home.
While not a store the City hosts what is know as the City Wide Garage Sale. It’s a huge 2 day event held on the weekends about 8 times a year. Vendors from all over come and showcase and sell their wares. Prices can be hit or miss. You certainly can find deals there, especially on Sunday when dealers are more apt to bargaining. You can find all sorts of things here from jewelry to furniture. There are certainly mid century items to be had, but you may want to show up early to have the best selection, since things do go fast.
Tip: Get on their mailing list to save $1 on ticket prices. Also if you want to shop early, they do offer early shopping for those who want to pay a little more.
The Settlement Home Sale
Palmer Event Center
The Settlement Home event is similar to the Citywide Garage Sale except it is way bigger in scope. It takes place one weekend a year and can be a ton of fun. What I consider professional pickers come to find crazy good deals on antiques, vintage items and every day items. To imagine what this event is like, just image the best estate sale or garage sale you have been to and then times it by 10. The Settlement Home Garage sale dates back to 1970 and has taken place every year since.
